Polenta...DISTHGUSTING!!

Disclaimer: YES, I know...for our first experiment with Polenta, we probably shouldn't have picked up "INSTANT"! I despise instant potatoes, so I should have known!!
Last Saturday, we ran over to Cost Plus World Market to do a little shopping. We like to go in there every once in a while to see what kind of unique cooking things they have. I spotted this Polenta, and always being open to try new things, thought why not?! I picked it up, threw it in my cart and away we went!
Fast forward to last night...my new knife set ($14.45 right now!!) came in and I was excited to start chopping some chicken and onions!!!
Honestly, I had no clue what I was going to make for dinner! I was just ready to try out my new stuff! lol
**Side note! You can thank me later!
Do you see that grey washcloth sitting on my cutting board? No, I didn't forget to move stuff before starting my video!!
DID YOU KNOW:
Onions release acid when cut...If you get a damp cloth like this, and put it on the chopping board, it will stop your eyes from crying when you're chopping them. "Apparently the acid in the onions is attracted to water, which is usually in your tear ducts! Putting a wet cloth on your cutting board makes the acid go to the cloth instead of your eyes." You're welcome!**
So, let's finish talking about this dinner FAIL! I followed the directions exactly (which is saying something for me) on the Polenta package. After it was cooked, it just looked really dry to me so in true Katie fashion, I tried to spice it up. I added half a stick of butter and some freshly grated parmesan cheese.
In a separate pan, I was cooking the chicken breasts, sautéed with mushrooms and onions! YUM!! (This was the only part of the dinner that DIDN'T fail!).
I finished everything off, it all smelled so good, and topped the plate off with chopped cilantro ( a must on all different kinds of dishes!).
Dinner was done! I was so excited to serve it to Jason...he always likes when I try cooking something new...

but that might change after this dinner! The Polenta tasted like wallpaper paste!! Like the super thick kind that held the old, nasty 1950s wallpaper up in this house! Like, literally scraping it off the roof of our mouths, thick!! The texture was grainy and tasted like buttered, feet (parmesan cheese) sand!
The little grains wouldn't go away! I looked over at Jason, and the poor guy was being such a trooper!! He was really trying to get through the meal!
Needless to say, that whole pot of Polenta went right where it belongs...into the trash!!!
also, if you've read this far, and can't get past the way that I spelled "disgusting" in the title...that is a family joke. I really do know how to spell it!
So a little background on DISTHGUSTING! When Riley was little, that is the way he used to say "disgusting" and it's just kind of stuck around here!
I hope you enjoyed our HONEST review of this purchase! Do you have a cooking fail story to share with us? Comment below and tell us about it! Surely, I can't be the only one!
