ps...I might just need this painting for my dining room!!

There is a common notion that darker colors make a room feel smaller. This is because dark colors absorb light and light colors can reflect openness in a space. But that notion may not always hold true. What if you really love dark colors? What if you don't want all white walls in your home?!

Does your room have a good source of natural light?

When we bought our home in October, it was a HOT mess!! I mean a HOOOTTT mess!! We had to rip up all of the old flooring throughout the house, remove old wallpaper that had probably been attached to the walls since 1957 when it was built, gut the kids bathroom, gut a portion of the kitchen...you get the picture!

As Jason and I were trying to decide exactly how we wanted our house to be painted, I started thinking about how much I liked dark colors. I've always wanted to go against the popular Swiss Coffee colored walls. I was over that in 1999!!

Jason and I knew we wanted a medium grey wall color with bright white accents. I started sending him picture ideas for our Dining Room...I was in love with one of our room colors being Navy Blue!! Our Dining Room was the PERFECT option!!

We were starting with a beautiful blank canvas...it's hard to see in this picture, but there is Wainscoting on all of the walls of our dining room. It was stunning and just dying to be painted Navy Blue!!!

On the other end of our dining room is a bar area. Eventually we will make that into a Coffee Bar, but for now, it's where we put our Charcuterie Boards, desserts and other goodies when company comes over.

Fast forward to now, and I'm so glad we went with the accent room color of Navy Blue! Yes, it is dark...but it's absolutely perfect! The White accent wall for the fireplace and bookshelf brightens up the room just enough.

What fears do you have about painting the inside of your house?

Suggestions I would make:

a. get GOOD paint! Don't skimp and buy a cheaper paint.

b. get a good paint brush/roller (I ended up really liking these! It does leave a very light texture to your walls but I was ok with that because of the mess our walls were in.

c. take your time, don't rush and just have fun!

So what are you waiting for?? Go paint a room in your house!!
